LIZ LECKIE NEW ASSISTANT DEAN FOR FINE ARTS UNDERGRADUATE AFFAIRS
Elizabeth “Liz” Leckie has been appointed assistant dean for undergraduate affairs for the College of Fine Arts. With more than 10 years of experience in student services at the U, Leckie most recently was director of graduate student services in the College of Nursing and prior to that, assistant dean for undergraduate affairs in the College of Humanities.
“We are so thrilled with Liz and the contributions she is already making to the College of Fine Arts,” says Dean Raymond Tymas-Jones. “She has jumped right into this leadership position and is incredibly knowledgeable on best practices with regard to student issues,” he adds. Throughout her career, she has worked with students across many disciplines and from diverse backgrounds. Leckie is a former recipient of the University of Utah Diversity Award and Philip and Miriam Perlman Award for Excellence in Student Counseling and Advising. Additional information is online.
DAVID ENTWISTLE NEW BOARD CHAIR FOR UTAH HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION
David Entwistle, CEO of University Healthcare, has been elected to serve as chair of the board of trustees of the Utah Hospital Association. As chair, Entwistle will lead the 23-member board in developing policy and direction for the Association in 2012. Entwistle is the chief executive officer for University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics (UUHC), a position he has held since February 2007. UUHC is recognized nationally as a leader in cancer treatment, ophthalmology, surgical specialties, and orthopedics and employs more than 8,000 people. Read more here.
U AGAIN RANKS NO. 3 IN NATION FOR GREEN POWER USAGE BY UNIVERSITIES
The U once again ranks No. 3 in the nation for green power usage among universities (No. 1 in the Pac-12). “This is a student initiative and they should receive credit for this wonderful achievement,” says Myron Willson, director of the U’s Office of Sustainability. “A big thanks also to Purchasing and Plant Operations for setting up a wonderful partnership with Rocky Mountain Power and 3Degrees,” he adds. The Top 20 College & University list represents the largest purchasers among higher education institutions within the EPA’s Green Power Partnership. The combined green power purchases of these organizations amounts to more than 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 121,000 average American homes annually. U ATHLETES HIT HIGHEST RECORDED GPA IN SCHOOL HISTORY
Utah’s varsity athletics teams posted a 3.072 combined grade point average for fall semester for the highest recorded GPA in school history. It marked the third semester in a row that Utah’s teams combined for a 3.0 GPA or better, which is another school first. Twelve of 17 teams beat their historical grade point average, with 11 of those earning above a 3.0. Fifty percent of the student athletes were above a 3.0 and 23 percent made the Dean’s List, which requires a minimum 3.5 GPA with at least 12 graded hours. Teams achieving record highs included men’s and women’s skiing and football. Go Utes!
