The construction of the University’s downtown data center is complete. UIT will begin moving into the new facility this month with plans to finish by mid-October. The move includes consolidating seven data centers across campus into the new facility. Moving these services and the equipment that supports them is a complex process.
Because of the complexity, there is potential for some IT services to be unavailable while the move occurs. An outside firm that specializes in data center move planning has been engaged and a plan has been developed to reduce the risk of downtime. Further impacts to the organization will be reduced by moving IT services during times that are best for the University.
An important part of this effort is to effectively communicate as the move occurs. Much of the communication will occur directly with the areas of the organization that are specifically affected by the IT service that is moving. Please watch for these communications which will include information about the move and potential impact.
