Welcome back!

A message from President David W. Pershing

Greetings to all faculty and staff.

It is my pleasure to welcome you back to the U at the beginning of what will surely be another exciting academic year.

I appreciate each of you and your contributions to this extraordinary institution.

Thank you for the warm welcome I have received as president. I look forward to working together as we continue to shape the success of this world-class research university while, at the same time, providing unmatched opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to learn through hands-on experience.

You return to a campus that continues to change to meet the needs of students and faculty. You will note the many construction cranes that symbolize our growth. This summer, the Donna Garff Marriott Honors Residential Scholars Community was completed, along with the new women’s softball field. Considerable progress has also been made on The Football Center, the Thatcher Building for Biological and Biophysical Chemistry, the David Eccles School of Business C.R. England Student Community Pavilion and Ken Garff Classroom Pavilion, the Sorenson Arts and Education Building, and the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building. We will break ground on the new Student Life Center in November.

These wonderful new facilities will aid in creating an even more exceptional setting for academic growth and success.

I look forward to this new year with tremendous enthusiasm. Together, we will continue to build upon our great legacy and welcome back our remarkable students with whom we share the future.
