The University of Utah Alumni Association is celebrating the 20th annual Utah Food Drive to benefit the Utah Food Bank. This year’s drive runs through Saturday, Nov. 30.
The food drive, which started in 1994 as a small competition for canned food between the Utah and BYU Alumni Associations, has grown into a vital holiday food drive providing food and monetary donations to the Utah Food Bank. In 2012, Utah supporters donated 402,000 pounds of food and $85,000 in monetary support. Although the rivalry competition ended after 2011, doing all that the U community can to ease hunger in Utah remains a top priority. One in five children in Utah faces a shortage of food daily. In addition, many needy Utah families have recently seen their government access to food resources reduced.
You can help support the U’s effort in many ways. You can make a monetary donation online or you can bring non-perishable food items to the Alumni House, 155 S. Central Campus Drive, or directly to the Utah Food Bank, 3150 S. 900 W.
Members of the Student Alumni Board and MUSS Board will be collecting food and money donations at many local grocery stores from Monday, Nov. 25 through Wednesday, Nov. 27. Please help support their efforts.
Please join the Alumni Association in a continuing tradition of serving our community.
